We have recently installed a MOVA Puffin crossing on a busy 50mph= road
which serves two colleges catering for special needs and disabled stu=
dents. The majority of users are very vulnerable and many are in wheelchairs=
. The crossing is a straight across with a central, straight-through refuge=
.There are push-buttons on both sides of the crossing with one i= n the
central refuge in case anyone gets stranded. Some users have difficul= ty
reaching/pushing the push-buttons and hence inserting a demand. In addition,
some users are crossing at a speed below the lowest on-cros= sing detector
setting of 1.8km/hr (0.5m/sec) with the result that they are = not extending
the all-red period and traffic can start moving whilst they a= re still
crossing.Does anyone have any suggestions to overcome t= hese problems?
