That statement makes me itch for some reason.

I had a cop pull me over once to settle a bet....was I driving a Volvo or a VW
Squareback?!!! I was so relieved when they said to each other that one of
them owed the other one $5 because it was the Square.

They let me get on my way.

i believe all tax office/vehicle registrations locations do them now. before in
tarrant county only 1 office could inspect your plates and approve them then
you had to go to another office to register them and yet send in a seperate
payment to austin for YOM plates---wait--- then you could register them like
any other plate. now thats all changed and everything including payment is done
at local office. 1 note here. DPS USED to let you register YOM plates even if
the YOM plate number was already in use. I believe that policy has changed. If
YOM plate number is in use you cant put it on your car. I know because i was
pulled over by a cop in southlake because my "PLATE" had a warrant on it or so
says the cop. when cop confirmed i was not the driver that the warrant was
attached to via the plate he let me go. i contacted the DPS the next day and
they assured me that my YOM plate number was in fact being used by TWO other
registered cars in Texas.
only solution was to put on new issue plates. i chose to keep my YOM 67
plates and take the chance of getting pulled over again. also the cop that
pulled me over knew B4 hand that i wasnt the perp cuz his computer shows the
plate# and make model of car that the warrant is for along with the name of the
person regisered to it. I was in a 67 bus. he was pulling me over for the fun
of it. I never had a cop be so nice to me for pulling me over. i guess he was
hoping for a sean penn moment out of that movie which title escapes me now. but
alas i was just on my way home from work at 11pm.........

The form that gets sent to Austin is after the fact though right? The girl I
talked to indicated that I would be on my way that same day. The wait would be
for Austin to send the plates back or somethin' like that.

There's a form that has to be sent in to Austin. Yes, the plates must not
be rust buckets but it depends on the Tax Office you go to. I found that
my local one has anal retentive SFBs running it, but in the next city they're
much nicer and will let "a little rust" get by.
You'll also find that most of the Tax Office Buearotards don't grok Antique
stuff. You'll also now have the nice new Window Sticker to go with
it. No tags on the plates anymore.

They don't have to send them to Austin, however to register your YOM

I have heard of DPS not accepting certain plates that were rusty and such.
Easy process. It'll take all of about 5 minutes, after you wait in the
long line.

> Yeah it's pricey but I want to get it inspected this month
so I
> can run the B & W plates I found otherwise I guess I
would need to
> go antique so I wouldn't need an inspection sticker. How
long does
> that take BTW?

much attention to
