Wow; will keep this one for reference; thanks! I'm doing loads of texting, but all just by finding one letter then another. The predictive thing sounds a bit longwinded; does it actually save time, by the time you've done all that stuff? Thanks loads, again, for your help; big *! For example the number 2has the letters a b c. In a text message you would do one press of thenumber 2 for a, 2 presses for b and 3 for c. To write Amie you would do the following 2 pressed once, 6 pressed once, 4 pressed three times to get the iand 3 pressed twice to get the e. Hope this makes sense. I know you from other lists and I know once you get what to do you will be up and away and will not go back to the long-hand of text writing. When I was learning I would just open a new message, not put a telephone number in the to field and would just write away in the text message. Then I would either deleteit or save in drafts and come back to it, delete what I had written and juststart all over again. you will of course know the the delete key is theclear key. Finally to finish, the number 3 has the letters d e and f and soon for the number 4 5 and 6 digits. However whenyou come to the number 7there are 4 letters assigned and these are p q r and s. Again the number 8 has three letters assigned t u and v and finally the number 9 has the final4 letters of the alphabet w x y and z. To enable predictive text hit the hash key to the right of the zero twice quickly and this should put you in predictive text. It will sound strange if you have key echo turned on but you will get used to that. Not every word you write will be in the dictionary but that can be inserted by yourself so that is in the next lesson here Lol! Also when you are using predictive text you may have tocycle through options after you have written a word as the word you require may be the second option and not the first one. An example is when writingthe word and at first I was not hearing correctly and I took the firstoption which was a m d until someone wrote and asked me if I was aware thatI had an error every time I wrote the word. I then realized what washappening and that I was not tuned in to the word sound. You will use the *key to cycle through your option of words and if there is not the word you require you get an option fter cycling through all to press soft key one where an edit box will open and you input the long way and then press key one again. This means that you have then put in the dictionary the word that had not been recognised so next time round it will be there either atthe beginning or when you cycle through using the & key. The zero works asusual to get a space and when pressed quickly 3 times, I think it is, you will get a new line or paragraph. Does it workwell with Talks? My phone does have net access although I haven't tried it yet. Really appreciating your time and trouble with me. You might like to listen to the CD youmay have got with the phone about Talks. Alternatively go to the blindsea website where you can go to mobile corner and download the Talks 4 manual. Worth a read. Do you know about predictive text for instance? Pleasedo bombard me if you have time; I'm most grateful and would like to know what Talks can do. When you go into the Talks program itself by pressing Talks key then star, how many tab sheets are there? Talks Premium supports Braille and has dictionary enhancements among other things. If you bought your phone from a store such as Vodafone, it is most likely you were given Talks Standard. This is ok and perfectly acceptable if yousimply want to use Talks for its intended purchase. But if you want to adda few more bells and whistles, then you have the opportunity to upgrade toTalks Premium and get the latest version. I don't want to bombard you withcomplexities and jargon though if it's all new to you. What's better about Talks Premium or Talks 5 please? Is it worth upgrading? You can get this from either www.comproom.co.uk or www.talknav.com If you purchased your phone through Vodafone, they would likely have put Talks Standard on it, so you could pay £50 to upgrade to Talks Premium if you wanted to. Hope this helps a bit. IF the question is which version of Talks, is Nuance Talks 4 a reasonable answer? It’s the version they put on when I bought the phone, near the beginning of this year. Thanks again. The key used varies slightly from phone to phone so if you can’t find this key then let us know which phone you have. Secondly there are 2 keys called soft keys 1 and 2 which are generally tothe left and right of the display. These are used with the phone whether ornot Talks is installed. To find out the version number you need to go into the talks window. It’s a bit like going to the JAWS window on the PC, except the talks window is notpermanently displayed on screen. To do this press talks key followed by star (which is to the left of 0) Once in the talks window press soft key 1 which brings up an options menu. Arrow down to about and the version number should be spoken..
