I find predictive text brilliant on the numeric keypad but on the alphanumeric as in the qwerty I just get on with the standard text and am very quick at that too.

Hi Amie

I have never got on with predictive texting. I use one index finger and go
for it without worrying about predictive texting. But each to their own,
others will swear by it.

Whatever you do, have fun, that's the sheer joy of Talks.

Wow; will keep this one for reference; thanks! I'm doing loads of texting,
but all just by finding one letter then another. The predictive thing
sounds a bit longwinded; does it actually save time, by the time you've done
all that stuff?
Thanks loads, again, for your help; big *!

Yes Talks works brilliantly with predictive text. For example the number 2
has the letters a b c. In a text message you would do one press of the
number 2 for a, 2 presses for b and 3 for c. To write Amie you would do the
following 2 pressed once, 6 pressed once, 4 pressed three times to get the i
and 3 pressed twice to get the e. Hope this makes sense. I know you from
other lists and I know once you get what to do you will be up and away and
will not go back to the long-hand of text writing. When I was learning I
would just open a new message, not put a telephone number in the to field
and would just write away in the text message. Then I would either delete
it or save in drafts and come back to it, delete what I had written and just
start all over again. you will of course know the the delete key is the
clear key. Finally to finish, the number 3 has the letters d e and f and so
on for the number 4 5 and 6 digits. However whenyou come to the number 7
there are 4 letters assigned and these are p q r and s. Again the number 8
has three letters assigned t u and v and finally the number 9 has the final
4 letters of the alphabet w x y and z. To enable predictive text hit the
hash key to the right of the zero twice quickly and this should put you in
predictive text. It will sound strange if you have key echo turned on but
you will get used to that. Not every word you write will be in the
dictionary but that can be inserted by yourself so that is in the next
lesson here Lol! Also when you are using predictive text you may have to
cycle through options after you have written a word as the word you require
may be the second option and not the first one. An example is when writing
the word and at first I was not hearing correctly and I took the first
option which was a m d until someone wrote and asked me if I was aware that
I had an error every time I wrote the word. I then realized what was
happening and that I was not tuned in to the word sound. You will use the *
key to cycle through your option of words and if there is not the word you
require you get an option fter cycling through all to press soft key one
where an edit box will open and you input the long way and then press key
one again. This means that you have then put in the dictionary the word
that had not been recognised so next time round it will be there either at
the beginning or when you cycle through using the & key. The zero works as
usual to get a space and when pressed quickly 3 times, I think it is, you
will get a new line or paragraph.

I kind of know about predictive text but haven't tried it yet. Does it work

well with Talks?
My phone does have net access although I haven't tried it yet.
Really appreciating your time and trouble with me.
Thanks

I am not sure that your phone has internet capability but I am sure someone
else on list will be able to comment. You might like to listen to the CD you

may have got with the phone about Talks. Alternatively go to the blindsea
website where you can go to mobile corner and download the Talks 4 manual.
Worth a read. Do you know about predictive text for instance?

There are 3 tab sheets, if I'm understanding the question properly. Please
do bombard me if you have time; I'm most grateful and would like to know
what Talks can do.
Thanks

Hi Amie

As with most good software, a newer version generally fixes bugs or reported
issues that were troublesome in a previous update. When you go into the
Talks program itself by pressing Talks key then star, how many tab sheets
are there? Talks Premium supports Braille and has dictionary enhancements
among other things.

If you bought your phone from a store such as Vodafone, it is most likely
you were given Talks Standard. This is ok and perfectly acceptable if you
simply want to use Talks for its intended purchase. But if you want to add
a few more bells and whistles, then you have the opportunity to upgrade to
Talks Premium and get the latest version. I don't want to bombard you with
complexities and jargon though if it's all new to you.

HI Jackie
Everything helps; I know nothing! What's better about Talks Premium or
Talks 5 please? Is it worth upgrading?

Hi Amie

Talks 4 is fine, but just to let you know that Talks 5 is available as a
free download. You can get this from either www.comproom.co.uk or
www.talknav.com

If you purchased your phone through Vodafone, they would likely have put
Talks Standard on it, so you could pay £50 to upgrade to Talks Premium if
you wanted to.

Hope this helps a bit.

Hi and thanks to all who told me about the star key. IF the question is
which version of Talks, is Nuance Talks 4 a reasonable answer? It's the
version they put on when I bought the phone, near the beginning of this
year.

Thanks again.

Hi Amie.

First you need to be aware that on all phones with Talks installed there is
a key called the Talks Key. The key used varies slightly from phone to
phone so if you can't find this key then let us know which phone you have.

Secondly there are 2 keys called soft keys 1 and 2 which are generally to
the left and right of the display. These are used with the phone whether or
not Talks is installed.

To find out the version number you need to go into the talks window. It's a
bit like going to the JAWS window on the PC, except the talks window is not
permanently displayed on screen. To do this press talks key followed by
star (which is to the left of 0)

Once in the talks window press soft key 1 which brings up an options menu.
Arrow down to about and the version number should be spoken..

Regards

Graham

I'm new to the list; have been reading and wondering where to begin with
questions. Realised you're all referring to the versions of Talks you use
and I don't even know which one I have, or how to find out. Figured the
first question I need to ask you is how do I find out which version of Talks
I'm using, please? Once I know that I'll truly entertain you with my
ineptitude!

TIA

Amie
