Dear Joe,

TYou're right, but even SSDI benefits don't pay enough to really live, and I believe, given the right opportunities and training, many more blind people would want to work and contribute to the economy and live better.

Yes, and they are more than likely not hiring right now. But It would be
nice to see enough jobs out there that it might benefit the blind community.
I was thinking of the bigger population which is the people that is seeing
and don't have handicaps. We are such a small part of the economy I don't
know that our unemployment would make a big difference.

Dear Joe,

Right, you are; I don't understand why those in power don't see
this---Tallahassee is and could be much, much more than just government and
medical and education jobs.

Deloite seems to have a fairly large workforce here but don't know if any
blind or visually impaired people have been employed by them.

Yes, I agree but the Jobs need to be there first, or it will put the
whole state in a much bad economy, especially Tallahassee, Florida and
surrounding counties! Just more thoughts to chew on.

Dear Joe,

I''ll have to wait for Chip's ruling on this, but I'll reiterate:
Tallahassee has to stop living off goverment jobs, though the state
has been

better at hiring blind people than the county or city has been, but
there must be more diversity in employment which would, hopefully,
benefit everyone.

Well, you might be right if we cannot talk about it without tempers
getting up! But I would think this list could do this. I would say if
the list talked about it not to say anything about one party or the
other but to keep it on the track of what the legislature does that
would affect the Tallahassee area and surrounding counties from
economy wise and Jobs wise and the effect it will have on local
government and jobs and the economy and the effect it would have on
the blind community, and local business ! but only if the list could
do this in a civic manner! Any other thing would be have to be taken
off list. Just some thoughts.

Yes, unless this legislature has it way and put all the government
not just state but local government people out of jobs and this will
especially kill the economy of Tallahassee and surrounding counties
and this will in effect close these business and then we will have
less choices to go and have to travel farther to get to these places
which will put a hardship on us the blind community. Just my
thoughts.
