I read all your posts and my latest response is:
1. Israel planes flew over the Liberty several times before the attack and I
presume Washington was informed.
2. It is inconceivable to me that Israel is so crazy stupid that they would not
have told Washington that they will
attack if we don't move that spy ship out of that tank monitoring range
area even if it is in international waters
since they were committed to an important Golan Heights attack the next day.
3. It is inconceivable to me that Israel is so crazy stupid that they would
pull a surprise, without warning, Pearl
Harbor attack risking an immediate response from minutes flying time away
retaliation response from a
powerful navy fleet with aircraft carriers.
4. It is conceivable to me that Israel knows that Washington has interests in
Egypt and wants Egypt to like us
and a good way would be for the Liberty to pass military info to them. In
plain English, motive.
5. It is possible that Israel has recordings, proof of the Liberty giving the
Egyptians military info that would
embarrass the hell out of us if they became public when we are supposed to
be neutral?
6. It is possible that Washington played chicken and didn't believe that Israel
would dare attack???
7. I have no idea if the Captain of the Liberty was informed or not of any of
the above?
8. I agree using napalm, machine gunning life boats, etc are war crimes that
should be punished but I do
believe this goes on in most all battles and our troops have done the same
without holding trials with a
few exceptions here and there.
9. The above is 100% guesses on my part, I have no inside information, you cant
blame me for guessing
and up to now to the public it is a dead issue.
10. Why did we go into Viet Nam, a 3rd world, small country without any serious
manufacturing, no airforce,
former colony of France where we introduced napalm, dropped more bombs on
them then we did on
Europe in WWII and what did they do to deserve all of this? Now it is a
popular tourist destination and
trading partner. This is one case where the communists won. Go figure.

I don't believe that any such telephone call was made. I am absolutely sure
that the story about a message being sent was purely made up - there is NO
number for the message.
As a radio officer, you know that important messages are numbered so that the
Company knows if there was a message in sequence that was missed.
USLUS027 then USLUS028 then USLUS029.
All the messages sent to LIBERTY from NAVY COMMMUNICATIONS CENTER WASHDC were
numbered and one FLASH message was NOT numbered?

Stan, what angers me and suggests that you are very stupid is that you take the
side of Israel over LIBERTY's crew.
We have had many opportunities to disobey international laws, but we do not.
Israel clearly disobeyed International Law - we have a recording from the pilot
who was sent to shoot the ship saying it had a USA flag on it.
They knew it was a USA ship and they shot it any way, but what was far worse is
they shot them men in lifeboats.
I don't know about the others on this "net" but shooting seamen who are in a
lifeboat is so EVIL that it is a giant crime.
I was a seaman - all of us were - do you think shooting men in lifeboats was a
EVIL act?
It seems you support Israel in this.
I call it murder.

I already answered your question last night:
If [Israel] lost terribly. If they were afraid USA was going to betray a long
time ally, they were absolutely wrong, and if they thought that they could use
the telephone.
If they were afraid we would discover their plans to attack Golan Heights, they
should have changed plans.
It is.much more likely that we caught Israel committing a War Crime, and they
wanted to eliminate all witnesses.
If they could do such a horrific crime to a ally who gives them BILLIONS of
dollars a year, what else do you think they would do?

JS did not mention anything about "our Generals telling Israel to not attack
Golan Heights". Have you lost your ability to read?
Stay on the subject, the subject isn't Viet Nam, the subject isn't the point of
being neutral - even though it did not help the DEAD sailors on LIBERTY.
Respond to JS, did you know that the statute of limitations does not expire for
any WAR CRIME.
Would you write your Congressman and Senator to initiate such a charge?
Israel would have an ample time to defend herself.
