RR,

The money changers and the animal pedlers were allowed to set up in the
Court of the Gentiles.

Jewish law forbid any coin to be used except Jewish coin.

The money changers were very greedy. They would charge the Jews who were
coming to consecrate a son or daughter or other business of atonement 300%
profit, or they would charge three times the cost to change Roman coininto
Jewish sheckles.

Then when the rabbis came out they needed to change the sheckles into Roman
coin that they could spend in the market, the money changers would charge
them 300% again, so the money changers would be making 600% on the same
scheckles.

The animal pedlars were also thieves, charging far too much for animals
used in sin atonement.

So you see doing this actually helped the rabbis because I'm sure the usery
stopped at least for a while.

But there was no challenge to the authority of the Sanhederan by Jesus.
