Oh absolutely agree Ross - that is one thing that must be very, very accurate.

Would like to point out that weighing accurately is NOT something that can
be eliminated from the process though! :-) Just in case there was any
confusion :-))

No never volcano effects.

Mix the lye and water, sit in breezy doorway (I don't have to worry about
animals or children), use when jug is just warm to the touch or cold -
doesn't matter.

I multi batch oils - so when I want to soap, I microwave said bucket of oils

2mins on high - 3.5mins in winter, when liquid add lye and away we go.

It is a feel thing - you just know when all is good. Even if you mix lye
and water and add straight to the oils - hard or liquid or both you won't
get a volcano effect.

However, I do recommend using thermometers until you have quite a few
batches under your belt.

I also know how difficult this would be for you Louise being a baker!

It is so easy and flexible and I used to hate getting everything to the
right temp. I find it is not necessary for me.

I always, always gel - think it makes better soap.

Some people perfer not to gel and put the soap in the fridge! Not for me
though.

Liz

If you don't use thermometers how do you know when the lye solution is at
correct temp to mix everything together? Have you had any volcano
effects?

Soapblog would be fab I agree.

I thought that all soap had to go through the gel phase???

Cheers
Louise

(Must actually get some other work done today) ha ha - this really is an
