Subject: [soapcraft] Re: Gelling

Hello Everyone. My name is Kathryn and I've been making soap for about
two years now. I'm totally addicted and drive my long suffering husband
crazy with talk about soap, reading about soap, stopping the car to look
at other people's soap.....
To answer the thermometer question. I've never used a thermometer when
making soap. I don't know if this makes me odd, but there you are, every
soaper is different.
I know the temp of my lye is right when I can put my hand on the side of
the glass jug and have it feel very warm but not hot. I've only ever had
one volcano effect and I think that was due more to the coffee beans I
had just added. The mess!
I also have a question. Are there any other soapers here that use the
hot process method? I tend to use a cooked in the mold hot process
method. I guess I haven't the patience for cold process.

Regards
Kathryn
