Hi again... I use the trial and error method myself. It works out for me very well. That's the best way to learnIt's frustrating at times but yields lots of satisfaction afterwards. I do agree that members should try to troubleshoot themselves especially since you have taken the time to put together the "tricks and tips" file set. Much appreciated btw. I do belong to other lists and know how frustrating it can get when it appears that people are not trying when the answer seems obvious or easy to read. If we can get access to the text you have created it will make a big difference for many users I'm sure. All the best... Yes, everyone learns differently. However the Sib 5 Reference Manual is a very well-written document, and if I or other list members sense that someone is not reading it just because they want us to provide all the answers, well then we do get a bit sensitive. Our time in the early years was well spent with trial-and-error along with looking at the documentation to figure out why things did or did not work as expected. The end result are a group of users who are able to use Sibelius fairly well and in fact in some cases, are making a living at using Sibelius. WE tend to believe that the best way to learn is to try for yourself and to figure out answers by research. The old "give a man a fish vs. teach a man to fish" adage at work here. Also I've posted to our listers a collection of a few dozen short files with tips and tricks to help us use Sibelius more efficiently in our own way. These are important to us because in many of the descriptions in the Sib 5 Reference Manual there are steps that relate to using a mouse, or pulling on a rectangle corner, or dragging a staff, which we cannot do in the usual manner. So I tend to point to the resources available to someone rather than give them all the steps to solve their immediate problem,in the hopes that they open the book and learn. I,ve been following the last few posts regarding the use of Sib documentation. While I recognize that people (in this modern generation of instant access to almost anything) can get lazy when it comes to reading manuals, I must remind everyone that there are different types of learners and different levels of proficiency when it comes to JAWS users. Reading a reference manual can be a daunting task especially when you have not had previous exposure to software. My opinions come from many years of IT Access training with a broad scope of individuals with disabilities. A PDF manual is not easy to navigate at the best of times. If the manual is made with accessibility in mind you can use INSERT + F6 to navigate headings with JAWS. The shortcut CTRL + SHIFT + N is very useful in navigating large documents. If I had time, I would convert the whole thing in Word to make it more accessible to JAWS users. Maybe sometime down the road, I'll do this. And now to the insults. Using words like "selfish" are less than tactful and do require some moderation. Lets remember that we don't know the other person's story. That is, everyone's background is different. I do believe this is an international list serve so language does come into play. Dave, I appreciate your response. Thank you. If my email has offended, I appologise in advance.
