  My ES has always been a bit like that.  If memory serves (which it may 
not!), her dam was rescued out of a bad placement by the breeders, a 
placement where she had not been fed well.  The dam developed "issues" 
with food and there was some feeling she may have passed that anxiety on 
to her pups.
