I don't know if this is beating you up or not.....<G>....but while it is
considered
"presumptuous" to think the "working dog fancy" needs to be educated on
conformation and the Standard of the GSD........
I think it is ALSO very "presumptuous" to always describe the conformation
dog as
dogs with 'dragging toes, egg beater rears, and bus width' to their fronts or
 'weak.'
We have conformation dogs here...and so far that doesn't describe any of them??
<G>
I haven't checked Evan's schedule....so this might not be open for discussion
anyway....
but I gotta say......
The real 'gap' or 'schism' between the "working" dog and the "conformation"
dog
is NOT THE DOGS!!! It's the PEOPLE!!
Working dog people are not all that interested in conformation and going
Select.....and
conformation people are not all that interested in difficult working titles.
It is rare indeed to find anyone working their rear off to put any working
titles on the same
dog they are beating themselves up working on and conditioning and driving
miles for
and spending money on to put Championship and Select titles on.
Takes a lot of time, commitment and work and money for one.....let alone both!
Most of us
just can't do it for many reasons. Families, jobs, training talent, training
facilities, equipment,
handlers....or even sheep for herding....and of course the big one....money and
time!
Some of us are talented breeders........some are talented trainers. Not all
are BOTH!
PULEEEEZE let's not get into anything "mandatory" or "have to" ......

Thank You Jackie!!!! I was sitting here with duct tape on my hands. :0) It
amazes me that the
conformation folks think so little of the performance folks !!!!!! Good Lord
get over yourselves. :0)
I was asked one time why not go to a good American line dog to improve
working ability.
My response was for the same reason they didn't go to a German line to
improve front reach.
You can find both things in both lines but because they are not the measure
looked for in each
ring you are going to have a harder time finding it. It could be a class
where you wouldn't see
dragging toes, dogs that are as long as freight trains, egg beater rears and
fronts so wide you
could drive a bus through the front legs.
That I would agree with. Ok now beat me up :0) Terry hiding under the bed!

The working dog people are, by no means, the only people who need to get
educated! We have much to learn from each other. I was hoping that was the
whole point of this discussion. Here it comes....if I had my way, a dog would
have to have at least the first level of a performance/working title to be
shown
in BOB at our National. There is a basis for this conclusion in research. It
is not just my personal preference/opinion. Zoa

Er, I hate to be a "downer", but while I'm completely on board for a working
dog class at the national,
it does seem a little presumptuous that the "Working dog fancy" needs to be
educated.
Now, when you say working dog folks, I'm not sure if you mean all performance
exhibitors, but there's
performance dogs and there are the working line dogs (which are not the same
as the West German
  Show Lines).
The working line people certainly consider structure in their breedings, but
not in the same manner
   that conformation exhibitors do.

I would appreciate clarification though, if you can give it.
