Anybody who knows me knows that I am equally at home in both rings, BUT I

also want to have, structurally, a VERY GOOD DOG in either ring (and
pretty..Ok I'll admit it, they need to be pretty lol). Heck, I want a
gorgeous
dog walking with me in the park or laying in front of the fireplace.

I agree, but it never has been a two-way street. At conformation shows
when we used to have obedience, we always had the obedience winner come into
the conformation ring, and show off what they could do, everyone applauded.

I suggested one time that we take our Best of Breed winner over to the
obedience ring and have them stack and be shown off. Everyone laughed at
that.

The conformation clubs always tried to put on obedience, but the working
clubs, never offered conformation.

Now, it seems like a good idea to have a working dog class, but, in my
mind, to what end. We judge conformation to a standard, that is set to
determine the best structure of our breed to do the work they are supposed to
do.
That is called conformation judging. We did require no disqualifying
faults for the obedience victor and victrix at the national, (another idea I
did not like). If a dog can do the work, why disqualify him for a hanging
ear or being white, unless he/she is entered in conformation). If they do
the work better than any other dog, so be it. They should get the award.

I see no value in a working dog class at our national. If the entry
matches the standard better than any other animal, it should win, not
withstanding any record in the obedience or other ring. Untill we are ready
to give
conformation dogs entries in obedience without requiring them to do the
work, let's not put in a class with a feature the judge can't judge.

That is why I was against the OFA class. I agree with Select Excellent,
it is a tool for breeding, but we never use it to judge the dogs. I don't
believe we should have two types of dogs, but the better thing to do is
require conformation judging, (meeting the standard), in the performance ring,
than to do it the other way around.

I know my position is not going to be popular, but that never has stopped
me before.
