[ SHOWGSD-L ] Who asked anyway?

I have been following this thread for a while now, and realize all the work
that has been done over the past years on the illustrated standard. I also
know how much dedicated time and energy has been expended, and how many hard
feelings it has generated. I know how much the board and in particular the
committee has worked on this, and it is appreciated. Lannalee has dedicated a
good share of her life on this.
Now, that being said, would it be foolish, (shut up Paul) to ask, why is it
being done?
Have we failed to improve this breed over the past 50 years because our
illustrated standard was no good? Have the breeders been in a quandry to
figure
out which stud dogs to use because we didn't have a good illustrated
standard? Have judges fallen down in the ring weeping and unable to find
winners,
because we didn't have a good illustrated standard?
Why is this being done, what problem or problems will it eliminate if we get
it right, and what problems now exist because we have an improper or useless
illustrated standard?
I have been waiting for someone to answer or even to ask those questions. I
just wonder what is broken that we are trying to fix?
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
