Helen- I agree with you completely. Maybe we need to resurrect the ABJAC (All
Breed Judges Advisory Committee).

D.D. Of course there is a different STYLE in our GSDs today, but that has
nothing to do with our USA Standard. That has only been changed twice since
then (reformated, and DQ of whites) We had gorgeous dogs then--if fact some of
the greats could win very easily in our ring today.Presentation was very
different then The dogs were posed more naturally, not set up as they are now.
Orrie drew generic schematic Illustrations. We had gorgeous dogs back then that
he could have copied, but this is a teaching tool,so he chose not to and took
his measurements directly from the Standard, not someone's top winning dog.
People are confusing STYLE with conformation. All other breeds have
done the same thing Just attend Crufts show in England some time ,and look at
certain breeds there, and the copare their counterpart over here---completely
dufferent. But their Standards are the same.Just like clothes ,or buildings.,we
humans imprint our likes& dislikes on an object,be it a dog or a convention
center, and it will always contnue. We present and groom our dogs comp[letely
different.and that's fine,but the standard doesn't change.
I was Education chair for 6 yrs,and in fact formed ABJAC(Allbreed
Judges Advisory Committee) for the purpose of educating allbreed judges about
GSDs. I contacted every applicant listed in the Gazette ,welcomed them to our
world of GSD,sent them our GSDCA informational club phamplet, the pocket
Standard, and the Illustrated Standard . In all those years,no judge had a
problem recognizing that that it was our Standard.
Each person thinks their dog is perfection, but we all know our dogs have
faults. You can't piece-meal illustrate and take a head from one dog,a
topline from another,a front from another, and a rear from another.. It just
won't go togther,so you have to stick to a generic dog, drawn from the standard
measurements. Updating the head on our logo was different and very easy to do.
We can't do the Standard that way Helen Miller Fisher
