Radiography of pregnant or estrus females should be avoided due to
possible increased joint laxity (subluxation) from hormonal variations.
OFA recommends radiographs be taken one month after weaning pups and one
month before or after a heat cycle. Physical inactivity because of
illness, weather, or the owner's management practices may also result in
some degree of joint laxity. The OFA recommends evaluation when the dog
is in good physical condition.

After a dog is 2 years old, you can *not* resubmit x-rays in order to
change an OFA rating. Films can be resubmitted for "Follow-up" studies.
These follow-ups are read by only one Radiologist instead of three.
The report sent back will indicate this was a follow-up study, but the
original OFA rating will not be changed in any way. Here's what it says
about this on the OFA website:

earlier official OFA consensus reading on which the animal may have
received a hip/elbow number.

Hello Everyone.
I know of a 2 yr old GSD bitch (not one of mine) who was in season
when
her owner took her in for OFA xrays. The bitch ended up with an OFA hip
grade
of Mild. Is there any hope of this girl getting a Fair if resubmitted
when
she's out of season? Has anyone ever heard of this happening?
