Here are some facts and why people object.
The roast of Ed was on GSD By Design. Many of those who had a chance to view
it before removal found the language vulgar. It is fair to say filled with
swear words of the xrated variety. The verbiage was filled with nasty language
and not something you would want the general public, junior handlers, and
people in our breed to read. Ed was portrayed as a weirdo and low class, due
to the content and language in the roast.
Ed Barritt was elected by the membership to officiate our National Specialty as
Breed judge. Many of us know Ed to tell jokes, tell everyone that he loves
them, and banter is part of who Ed is. However, Ed is also highly regarded and
respected by many, as evidenced by the votes he obtains every year he runs to
preside on the best of our dogs. Ed is educated, smart, well spoken, and
regarded as an expert in our breed.
When news of the roast hit, over 600 people went to this web site to read the
roast.(something GSD By Design bragged about as objections hit the list). It
is fair to say that when people read the nasty hurtful language, they may have
cast a light and viewpoint on Ed that was unfavorable. (The roast quoted Ed
along with showing pictures of Ed that were personal in nature.) Ed himself
personally called the editor and asked that it be removed, he did not know the
content was filthy language and has not and did not ever endorse the roast. (I
am the person who called Ed.)
Ed is deserving of the utmost respect. I would ask that everyone ask
themselves "Had this been me, how would I have liked it?" Whether you are
judge: Ed Barritt, Helen Gleason, Ken Downing, Dave Rinke, or my own mother-
the content was nothing short of harmful. Remember, over 600 people went to the
site in a few hours- who knows the total hits by the time it was removed.
People who do not know Ed read this. The site is public, available to children
and juniors to top it off.
It directly conflicted with GSD By Designs own policy to "keep it clean". I
will ask one person who READ the roast to come forward and defend it. Trust
me, if you did not see it- you would be offended. Perhaps if you need facts,
ask for a copy in private from the editor.
Indeed, people have requested to have their ads removed. It is my
understanding that some of those requests have not been honored yet, their ads
are still on the site.
We can all agree that a web based forum is a great idea and concept. The web
site is impressive.
In my opinion, when you drag down highly respected individuals and brad about
hits to your site, a question of integrity comes into play. We are a family and
some day we will all leave this world. I certainly would not want a nasty
roast to be part of my legacy, how about you?
In closing, Ed is a very caring person who I consider a friend and regard very
highly. Many of us do. I will defend his honor for this reason.
