Ignorance is a large part of the problem. People don't know what they can do
as an individual to help. That is not a really good excuse since the WEB
gives everyone the ability to research issues in their State. Apathy is a
bigger
issue. Stormy, Paul and Ginger have all tried to keep the List updated on
current BSL issues. The List gets silent and folks even go so far as to say
they get tired of reading/hearing about it. Well, guess what? L.A. is always
used as a model for other large cities. If this bill passed here, it will soon
make it's way across the Country. If you think it won't happen where you
live, think again.
What can you do as an individual? Use what you are good at. We have so many
talented folks on the List. People who are good at organizing, speaking in
public, artistic, you name it. Use your talent.
This past week, when I went to my herding lesson, Janna was outraged that
this bill passed. Janna breeds Border collies and Bouviers. Not dangerous
dogs,
right? Well, she decided to start doing photos and videos of "dangerous"
dogs working sheep. She has Rottweilers, rare breed herding breeds, GSD's and
many other large breed dogs as students. She is actively involved in Malibu
politics and plans to present these videos to all the politicians she can.
This
law does not directly effect her. But, she stepped up to the plate and is
using what she knows to help.
Maybe the AR people have more money, but we, as dog fanciers, have a huge
voice if we choose to use it. Make this issue a passion so you can keep your
passion for the future of our breed.
