Oh how I'll respond to this one because of that man being mentioned. EACH
AND EVERY ANIMAL AND EACH AND EVERY SITUATION MUST
BE ATTENDED TO ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS. Two very wonderful
books showing different situations with the endings being what they were as
mostly due to the individual situation. "Marley & Me" and "Merle's Door"!
If the person owning Merle had owned Marley, the ending would be quite
different I'm sure and vise versa. The first YEAR of a dog's life is the most
influential in the development, as in all critters, even human. Therefore,
there
are far too many IFS involved. ENVIRONMENT DOES have far more
to do with things than a lot of people realize, even after the fact as well as a
new life location and what that particular human involved for the future may
or may not be able to handle. Also, the "Dob Whisperer" if I'm right, does
not always find new homes for the dogs he "trains" as there just may not be
one for that particular critter. Sorry, but this is more of a truth than what
he may be doing otherwise. JMHO Norma no L (been there, done that)

Subject: [ SHOWGSD-L ] Nature or nurture and the "Dog Whisperer" says.....

If any of you watch the "Dog Whisperer" then you know he always says
that no dog is too much for him to handle and that he can train ANY
dog. How do you guys feel about that? Do you believe that ANY dog can
be trained?......or that some are just hopeless cases? We've all seen
him on TV work with fear biters and even aggressive dogs. How about
some of the dogs that "Dog Town" takes in and works with and turns them
around to be good citizens? I've told a friend of mine who owns a
mixed breed dog that some breeders will put a dog to sleep that displays
this kind of temperament. Her respond was she didn't believe in that
and that ANY dog can be trained with time, patience and a whole lot of
love. So is she and the "Dog Whisperer" correct? Nature or nurture?
Can the nature of some of the "beasts" be tamed by lots of nurturing?
Best, Barbara
