What is amazing though, is how little thought is given to this problem. None of the GSD standards across the world are different enough to create such different dogs. It is the "interpretation" excuse that does that. If the honest to goodness goal of every breeder, exhibitor, and judge, was dogs that come as close as possible to the standard, these very different styles of dogs would not exist, and good dogs could compete and win in any conformation ring. If that ever happened, entries in every ring would increase because most people would be using all of the venues to promote their truly good dogs. I know that the proponents of "interpretation" will jump on me for that comment, but I won't be arguing the subject as I have in the past. I know I can't change their opinion so I'll just hope that breed education and the importance of the standard becomes important again.
