That she walked away with no consequences to her actions is vile. 900 and
some dollars, probation, sorry but to me that is NO CONSEQUENCES when a
speeding
ticket in IL is $75, and that's for a *minor* speed infraction.

When I saw this whole thread, of course I cried, am still crying. I remember
the morning of January 17, the day we first assembled to begin bathing. This
was after Sally, Sherry, Valerie and others assessed the dogs. That morning
was gray, dark, and foggy -- warm for January in Chicago (it was raining) yet
the chill in our hearts and bodies wasn't from the temperature. Nothing in my
life could have prepared me for that day, and the days that followed.

I am grateful for the anger I felt; it fueled me where the desperate,
horrific conditions of the dogs only reduced me to tears and made me incapable
to
act. Thinking back now, I can still smell the conditions, and hear the
overhead
page at the AWL sqwuaking "Volunteer to front for owner give-up." One coward
left their dog tied up to the fence in front of the shelter rather than pay
the fee for an owner give-up.

I'm not a large person, but even I was able to pick up adult male GSD's with
ease, they were so emaciated.

We all shed so many tears into the filthy bathwater, at times we had to stop
and hold EACHOTHER to keep going. Many people brought or sent food for us,
most of it went untouched as our stomachs were full of tears we kept
swallowing.

And every time we held onto a dog and cried, each dog in our arms (wet,
dirty, ill...) the DOG would look at us with questioning eyes and lick our
faces.
That brought on fresh waves of tears - these dogs suffered horribly at the
hand of man (or in this case, woman) yet they still trusted, still loved. The
youngest ones played. We found bitches that had obviously been mothers yet
they
were just puppies themselves.

I don't believe any one involved went untouched and we were all changed
forever from what we saw. I know that the people, the clubs, who sent
donations of
all kinds deserve as much recognition as anyone; it was all motivated by love
and for that I am grateful, because we were able to help many many dogs.
Those of us who were there physically had geographics, time, and strong backs
(and not always even the strong backs) to give. Others had supplies and
financial help to give. Everyone who offered up a thought or prayer on behalf
of
those dogs helped save them.

I'm out of words....but not out of tears....the local clubs and PC and
private individuals all came together in some manner and it made a difference
in the
lives of so many mistreated German shepherds. For the dogs that didn't
survive, there must be a VERY special place at the Rainbow Bridge where....oh
he**
I can't do this I can't see the screen anymore....
