Even sadder yet is that this method is considered HUMANE by the AVMA guidelines
on euthanasia. The only caveat is that the blades be kept clear of "debris" so
that the chicks are ground up quickly. Why would we be surprised when these
guidelines also endorse Intracardiac and Intraperitoneal injection to destroy
dogs and cats? The AVMA guidelines read like Stephen Kings worst horror novel.
So much for "first do no harm"....yeah, right.
We live in a horribly violent society that has little regard for life. In some
states, Pigs are kept in gestation crates with iron bars separating them from
their babies (recently banned however, in Florida)...veal calves are taken from
their mothers at days old and kept chained by the neck in crates in the dark
(to reduce struggling) and fed a mixture of antibiotic laced milk to keep the
meat white..the only time they see the sun is on the way to slaughter...turkeys
are bred to develop oversized breasts causing them to be unable to walk; their
beaks are cut with a hot blade to prevent them from fighting. All of these
barbaric behaviors are deemed to be LEGAL. What makes us any better than Mr.
Vick? Because dogs are our companions? All animals have a brain and are able to
discern danger, feel fear and grief as well as their own unique brand of
"love". Does anyone remember the story of the two elephants separated for more
than 30 years only to find one
another again in a Sanctuary? They stood head to head, caressing each other
with their trunks; overjoyed at having found each other after so long. Please
read their story about the Hawthorne elephants...it is very moving.

Please check out Farm Sanctuary. Gene Bauston and his wife are truly amazing
people. After rescuing a sheep found very much alive on top of the "dead pile"
at a killer auction, they were spurred on to become one of the largest voices
for humane treatment of farm animals in the country. They have two
facilities...one at Watkins Glen NY and another in California. To read some of
their stories is truly a humbling experience. From pigs that were found frozen
into the ground in a brutal NY winter to slaughterhouse escapees...this place
welcomes them all with loving kindness.
Americans are not going to give up their steak and potatos...but HOW we treat
the animals that are used as food sources (and how they are slaughtered) needs
to DRASTICALLY change.

Well, the only answer is to buy only organic, hormone and antibiotic free
stuff raised by sustainable, humane methods.
You should see what they do to pigs...sad...
