Nah....it's FREEZING up here....There is frost on the pumpkin, but no berries
on the vines...<G>..and the dogs don't eat enough of those veggies to make a
change in that particular 'fairy exchange' anyway. They don't get processed
veggies because I don't feed them unless I throw some fresh extras in the crock
pot with a chicken for them. We don't grow 'green tripe'....so they don't
get THAT choice..<G>..but they do like to raid the garden occasionally if we
don't lock the gate. Only "packaged" product we do feed is kibble.
Right now they are getting a great crock pot full of "Turkey" soup with their
kibble. <G>
My point is that dogs will eat and maintain on a lot of things.....but either
way, they are all at the mercy of the owner they have....whether it is diet,
who they will have offspring by, show dog, lap dog or working dog, kept like a
"Zoo animal" or allowed a good life.....but ...assuming they have good homes
and owners that care, their general good health and longevity IMO lies mainly
within their gene pool.

Oh yeah one more thing, let's do an experiment Carolyn! Feed your dogs berries,
zucchini and carrots tomorrow, and then take a picture of what the "poop fairy
" brings you the next day! Ed

Sent Excellent point, I bet your dogs do go after the produce in your garden
cuz it is NOT processed ,and it's a hell of a lot better than the stuff in the
bag! I grow watermelon, okra, zucchini, tomatoes ( this year I will try
potatoes! )My dogs have never shown an interest in any of these things!
Although two years ago I had a litter of three and the watermelons were pretty
scared up... Once again the science is clear, it would be very easy for me to
feed my dogs the way I fed them 11 years ago! But I now know better, and a
great poet , the late Maya Angelo once said" when you know better, you should
do better" Ed

In the wild....they get carbs from the gut of their 'kill'.......but they are
all pre-digested. <G>
Maybe our dogs are "odd".....( shut up Paul ) <G>
BUT left to their own...our dogs will always go into the garden and eat
Zucchini, & carrots. They also will pick blackberries with me...AND... they
ONLY pick and eat the ripe blackberries! <G> Also, some seem to like
Cantaloupe rind. When I managed a restaurant I brought home all the cores of
the lettuce that was removed from the lettuce that day in a big box to feed to
the geese we had. The dogs would line up on one side, and the geese on the
other and all would SNATCH a lettuce core for themselves and come back for more
if the geese left any.
Also....when we had
horses and had them shod...the dogs would line up and wait for their share of
horse hoof trimmings to eat....with RELISH. The Farrier said almost all of
his clients dogs would do that if allowed. I personally don't
think we can pinpoint exactly what they MUST eat or used to eat for
survival...and nothing else should be allowed in their diet......except maybe
no Chocolate. <G>

Nothing to do with good or bad carbs, the dogs GI system is just not set up to
easily break down cards. Carbs , veggies and grains, are chewed by herbivores
( cows and humans) side to side motion of the lower jaw begins the digestion
process along with a certain enzymes in the saliva.... Dogs don't have this
enzyme in their saliva, dogs don't have lateral side to side movement of the
lower jaw, dogs don't have flat teeth like humans and cows, dogs have adjusted
to carbs and they can survive eating them... Just as humans have adjusted to
putting cigarette smoke down their lungs. Survive does not mean thrive!
Dogs don't need carbs! Ed

Ed, you know there is a big difference between carbs. Veggie carbs (and some
others) = good most grain carbs (and others) = bad

Yes she does, and believe it or not I don't agree with everything she says
either, even on raw diets! She believes dogs, cats need a balanced diet every
meal ( not true) and sometimes she says dogs don't need carbohydrates ( they
don't) and then she talks about feeding veggies! Can't have it both ways but I
really really like this vet! She is not afraid to apply the science with common
sense, she admits her mistakes! She even almost broke down into tears in one
video! I get her emails too! But I ain't gonna join FB... I don't like her
enough to do that! We think alike Iza... Is it because I love your dogs and we
have the same birthday? Go Raiders! FB
