Ed - I have to respectfully disagree. I have had 5 dogs that LOVE asparagus…
raw, cooked, plain, buttered etc… these guys will line up when I am preparing
it and beg for it off the plate. I have to make extra for them. They also love
cooked carrots, celery, zucchini yellow squash, and cabbage. They like raw
carrots and celery. I also had a golden back in the day that would steal apple
slices. My parents in Norway never bought dog food. The dog got bread with
liver pate on it and leftovers… they lived good long healthy lives and were
very active dogs. Mine get a variety of food. High quality kibble, green tripe,
chicken necks, sardines, beef or chicken stew, and right now I am slow cooking
turkey barley veggie soup to put on top of their kibble…

The only time I have noticed an issue is when the puppies eat a lot of raw
carrots. I hand these out when they are teething… and they don’t digest them
completely, but it has no adverse effect. I think if there is something they
seem to crave like the asparagus, it must be really yummy or it has something
they need and aren’t getting from their regular food. That said I need to go
and defrost some green tripe for their breakfast tomorrow.
