I am with Dawn on this one. Yes I agree we need good press BUT I don't think
we should be promoting something that is not within our breed standards.
What next do we give Shepoodles awards too? We may as well if we are going
to give this other off shoot of the breed one. I agree he did a good job the
one he was trained to do. Yes I agree that saving a child is the MOST noble
of deeds but I do think we should be careful about exactly what we are
promoting. I do NOT want to promote Shiloh shepherds I want to promote
GERMAN SHEPHERDS! The dog is going to get alot of pats and hopefully some
people will see german shepherds in a better light because of him but I am
betting they are online right now looking up shiloh shepherd not german
shepherd and our award will make no difference either way. I think that the
best way we can promote our breed is by education, training, and why don't
we have some sort of program through the GSDCA that gives some sort of
little phamplet to give people on how to join our group so we can educate
them teach them about our breed the right things to do for our breed! Thats
what I would like! I would give EACH and EVERY puppy buyer one so they could
join and I am betting that could be the first step to good promotion for our
breed.Anybody out there know how we might be able to do something like
that??? Something to put in our puppy packets??

Have to disagree with you on that one Dawn. Right now the club isn't
looking too hot in the court of public opinion , particularly amongst the
worldwide dog fancy. For us to award the dog / handler team that SAVED A
CHILD , regardless of the breed would be a really good thing for the club
and for dog owners in the country. We could make it an "Honorary" Hero
Award, or something. We need POSITIVE efforts in light of rampant dog
legislation and the Andrew Hunte debacle.
