the discussion is about whether this dog is eligible for the GSDCA Hero Dog
Award..

Which he is not because he is not a German Shepherd and IMO doing so, giving
the dog an award that is specifically slated for a GSD Hero Dog would not be
promoting our breed. I have been to rare breed shows. When I was looking for
a replacement for Ben. These people do not consider their dogs German
Shepherds but a mix of GSD and Malamute initially. They are offended by people
who
consider them large, coated GSDs and most (not all but most) would have
nothing to do with a GSD. Asking to award this dog a GSDCA Hero Dog Award
would be
no different than asking to give the award to a Golden Retriever or a, <<eek
gads>> "Shepdoodle" or some other breed "Created" as a separate breed using
GSD lines and not purposefully bred as an AKC registered GSD or a rescue dog
that appears to be a GSD and can get an ILP number. This dog was
purposefully bred by people raising and breeding "Shiloh Shepherds" and is
registered
with the "Shiloh Shepherd Registry" regardless of what we *think* the dog
looks
like. So, we honor the dog because we want PR and we believe that Shiloh
Shepherds are really just big coated GSDs and the media picks it up as we want
the PR right? Now the media goes to this lady and says so you are getting the
GSDCA Hero Dog award with your GSD and she says No, he is a Shiloh Shepherd,
I didn't want a GSD, I bought a Shiloh and explains the difference??????????
Now if you are saying it would be good PR to send her a letter or certificate
for her work with her Shiloh Shepherd. Not the GSDCA Hero Dog Award. I have
no issues other than someone should take great care to find out her views
because if you get media attention for it, who knows what the reporter would
say
when he learns about the breed for example GSDCA of America supports breeds
made by crossing GSDs with other breeds to form a new one. No one can ever
predict what a reporter will make of a PR campaign.
