Well, Kathleen, I will have to disagree with on this. The system is set up
for clubs to succeed "easily" now that we have a superintendent that does most
of the work. Putting on the futurity is pretty much like putting on the
specialty shows only you need to get trophy donations and ads. The "benefit"
received is what is made on the futurity plus what is made on the specialty
shows
held in conjunction with it. That's why the clubs want to host the futurity
in conjunction with their specialty - bigger entries.

Probably the main reason clubs don't bid for futurities is because they don't
feel they have the workers. It used to be the regional futurity chairman had
a lot of work to do. They took in all the litter nominations, typed them up,
sent the money on, took in the entries, typed up the catalog, etc., etc. They
no longer have to do that. Some regions, such as your own, have a system
worked out of rotating the futurity so that one club only bids on it. Other
regions have several clubs who like to host futurities and therefore compete
and
submit bids almost every year. As I stated previously, most clubs get all
their trophies donated without having to publicize the need on the List - or
maybe
it's just that the List is now a way to do that. The internet and fast
communication is changing many things.

Re that check for $1.00 that you liked so much - I can vouch for the fact it
was a pain. It was a real pain figuring out owner/breeder prize money and
then a pain for the treasurer of the local club to write all those checks. I
know because I did it several times both as National Chairman and regional
chairman (must admit, Bob had to help me figure out the division of all the
prize
money - he set it up on the computer way back in the dark ages - LOL).

Anyway, I'm sorry I don't have your negotiating skills for dealing with the
dog food companies. I leave that to others that do.

Tish
