My experience, is that very few people make breeding decisions based on the
critique of a judge. If they do, they do so on the critique of the a judge
who's opinion they respect highly. In general, i find that most people who
choose to breed to a stud dog, do so after seeing him live and in person or
they get input from a friend or associate who's opinion they respect. Breeders,
in the real sense, take it a step further by investigating bloodlines, looking
at other progeny etc etc. I find true "Breeders" to be an independent group who
think for themselves and trust their own mind, instinct and knowledge over any
second hand information.
Now with that being said, critiques as they are written today, are interesting
reading but more a reflection of the judges knowledge or lack thereof.
Dave Rinke did a critique at ringside at a local show and showed that he's
confident in his opinion and knowledge to put himself in that position. I
wonder how many judges have that capability???

How about this critique. The judge is one of those many many judges that
people feel is incompetent. He/she critiques your male and does a bad job and
says your dog has short comings that he really does not have. Now all the

who know your dog know this not accurate but the person who lives on the
other side of the state who was going to breed to your dog reads this

critique and changes his mind and goes elsewhere. You lose the bitch owner
loses and maybe the dog world loses a good one.
You can expand on this theme to include all the other possibilities of a
poor critique that is not accurate.
