This vet says it can only be done cut while the bitch is in season so that you can ensure you cut the correct bands and than breed the following season. I know several people on the list have talked about having this problem. Does this sound pretty much like what your vet said? What is the thought that this is hereditary? The bitch is about 5years, would age be a factor in this? Secondly, can anyone recommend a vet that my friends vet can call? Not having done this before, she said she would be more comfortable being able to conference with an experienced vet in this procedure. Thanks, Deena -------------------------------------------------------------------- Deena, I can't say that I have an extensive experience with this but I have had two bitches with rings that could not be bred naturally - I bred them both artificially (one surgical implant and one intracervical implant)- I had puppies in both instances (seven puppies in one litter and five puppies in the other litter) and these were easy natural whelpings (no C sections). Both vets (reproductive specialists) explained that hormonal changes dissolve the rings (I know it sounds strange but that was the explanation and I did not question the experts). The first bitch was bred three more times, naturally, and always had natural whelpings. I recommend that your friend finds a reproductive specialist vet in her area. Good luck.
