Don't ask, just tell.

The Bylaws of the GSDCA aptly cover this situation.

See Article III, Section 9.
"Minutes of the Meetings. The proceedings of these meetings (annual,
special, regular) shall be recorded, and the Minutes Published in the GSDCA
Review.
Such minutes shall include the yeas and nays of all votes"

This means that the names of all board members and their vote (yea or nay)
is to be recorded FOR ALL VOTES, and published in the Review.

As the author of this bylaw change, I can tell you that the purpose was to
prevent the situation where board members could hide behind the anonymity of
Secret Ballots.

I agree sensitive personal matters should always be discussed in private,
but in my opinion, it is cowardly of our elected officials to vote in private
and keep the individual votes secret from the membership. Anytime a vote is
taken, the breakdown of who voted for/against/abstained should be made public
for all members to see. And who knows, maybe the BOD will be brave enough
to publish the voting results for all to see - I sure hope so.

We will never be privy to the discussion, since this is the type of problem
that is dealt with in Closed Session. After the Board has made a decision
as a
result of their discussion.they go back into Open Session and announce
their results so that it is recorded in the minutes. You will see that, but
nothing of the private session.

I remember being on the board. Ralph Roberts walked up to me after a closed
session, (which I argued should be open) and said; "What happens in a closed

session is known by the members before the doors are opened."

I think this is true. Our board is a group of very good devoted people. I
am sure we will know why the gang of nine voted as they did. Just ask.
