I made a point off this list that the Verde Valley repeater has a auto-patch installed that you can make phone calls via ham radio when yu can't get a signal on a cell phone.. Not all the hospitals listed have a level 1 trauma center. You can request that your records be placed on a memory stick as I have and also if you have a medical condition you should enroll into Medic Alert. The ID number on the necklace or bracelet will give the doctors all that is needed from a data center in Turlock Cal. http://www.medicalert.org/home/Homegradient.aspx

Just a few thoughts.

Hi AJ,

Was there some incident or is this just a general thought?

If it’s a matter of handling medical emergencies, then we may also want look into who are the trained / semi-trained individuals in the clubs who could be called on for immediate first aid. I myself am a first responder for our company but don’t normally carry any advanced life support gear outside the company property. In the case of a cardiac or stroke related issue time is everything. So we may want to look at a contingency plan of calling in an evac (not the club) or DPS chopper to drop in on the field / meadow for transport. I will talk with DPS about their transport policies as well as look at other evac options if that meets with the groups approval. A quick drive over to the gravel pit to make a phone call for help is faster than trying to transport and handle a life threatening emergency in the back of a pickup truck while making the long drive out (been there. no fun).

While on the subject it is also helpful to have one medications and medical records on hand should something happen that they are incapacitated. Individuals with cardiac, diabetic, seizure related medical conditions come to mind. It’s very stressful to have an individual go down, try and figure out what is wrong and properly address it (have handled those too)…

It has brought to my mind where the closest medical facilities are at our observing sites. I have no idea of their location and could spend some time guessing, searching and guessing some more to come up with some results. Yet is there someone out there who has better search facilities that could do this. The results could be posted here and/or on the web site.
