gotta wonder where the money goes..... not only what $ AC gets, but what
it doesn't get that it's supposed to.... The Director is a "yes man" to
the asst county manager and thus the commissioners. They all are terrified
of loosing their positions if they raise taxes, so the animals suffer. The
animal welfare board does zero, zilch, nada....

I need to get back to the law books to determine exactly what the county is
obligated to provide for the animals it takes in. It is after all, a
shelter that is licensed by Dept of Ag. and subject to their requirements
and minumum standards. I know JB makes it his call on most things but he
oversteps his authority in some decisions.

He has a rule that there must be 12 empty cages at all times. Huh? Most
good shelters have just the opposite rule, there being no euthanisia of a
healthy animal if even one empty cage exists. He has a rule stating no
cameras allowed, he has a rule that a person cannot "bad-mouth" AC
practices or personnel while on the premises. He has in the past ignored
ambient temperature requirements and probably still does. The inmates
feed, water the animals and clean the place, but who gives the animals
water on Sundays, especially through the summer??

Bottom line is this... AC gets credit for a low euthanasia rate, but in
truth, it's a small number of rescuers, maybe three or four people, who do
almost all the pulling, and if they were to get sick, move away or quit,
the euthanasia rate would skyrocket.

A lot of issues need to be addressed before the county spends 5+ million
$$$ on a new facility.

*Of this there can be no doubt: when you save a single animal, or do
something to improve the conditions in which it lives, you have changed the
world.*
