The clarification was necessary for historical reasons, f.e., Rollei called the first Rolleiflex 2.8 (Tessar 2.8/80) "Rolleiflex 2.8" only, however when they manufactured the "Rolleiflex 2.8B" afterward, they started to call "Rolleiflex 2.8A" the original "Rolleiflex 2.8" using the internal factory name "2.8 A" for cameras descriptions, cameras technical manuals, etc from the 2.8B production., the same way they could call "Old Standard" the older model when they launched the "New Standard or Standard Neu" model but it was not the case, and then I'm also historically correct to do the clarification. The original "Standard" name also has a common use today, if you look right now for "Rolleiflex Standard " in ebay, you'll find some items with the name without "old" and authors like C. Prochnow and W.D. Emanuel keep the original factory names to distinguish both models. In fact, the name"Standard New" was a resource Rollei used to take commercial advantage from the "Rolleiflex Standard" camera enormous popularity and prestige at the time, but the New Standard was a technical mix between the newer Automat and the Rolleicord, as decades later would be the Rolleiflex T.
