Then, there are those of us that feel very comfortable with the uncropped square. I really feel constrained now in tight rectangular formats like 24x36mm.

I also prefer to shoot with a waist level finder, so the square is king for me.

Although I hear great things about the Contax 645 and it's arsenal of lenses for me the jump from 35mm to 6x4.5 is just not large enough to justify the extra burden a MF camera and 120 film represents. I need more. 6x6 is the minimum for me because then I can still crop down a bit if needed. But with 6x4.5 if I crop I'm getting so close to 35mm it seems hardly worth it. That, and my first serious MF camera was a Fuji 6x9 rangefinder. So maybe that effects my feelings too.

    Hi Jan,

Many thanks for your thoughtful reply.

I, too, have found my SL66 -- as wonderful as it is -- to be a very
burdensome traveller and have been intrigued by the Contax 645
    for its
easier portability and ability to employ a digital back (if I can ever
afford one). The only day-to-day limitation I find with the TLR is
    the
necessity to reload film frequently (although using 220 would
    help). I
would like to have a medium format SLR, though. I used smaller and
lighter Hasselblads for awhile, but ended up returning to my SL66 for
reasons I can't articulate. I have an unnatural attachment to the
    Rollei. :-)

However, I may do as you have done. It sounds like an elegant
    solution.

    All the best,

    Craig
