I own both an SL66 and a 2.8C Xenotar (and plan to keep both). I've also had a 2.8F Planar and a 2.8E Xenotar in years past.

My experience has been that the 2.8 Xenotars are sharper than the Planars on both the SLR and TLR cameras. The Xenotars have an astounding ability to resolve minute detail ("feathery" foliage, for instance) that the Zeiss lenses don't. On the other hand, the Planars appear to have a more uniform tonal range.

For the sake of comparison, these photos were taken with my SL66 with 2.8 Planar:

These were shot with my 2.8C Xenotar TLR:

These experiences, however, are just my own and could very well be reflective of particular cameras rather than general performance. Also, the SL66 exhibits a rather dramatic mirror slap which might compromise its ultimate sharpness and thus give a false impression of the "big" Planar's performance.
