Whilst efficient auto cars -do- exist the vast majority are still
slower and waste more fuel than manuals. Off hand I can only think of
the Merc and twin clutch VAG autos that are close to, but not ahead
of manuals. As long as a torque convertor is the cheapest way to make
an auto work this will continue to be the case.
