I am one of four volunteer organists at my church. The organ plays for
congregationals, and preludes on sunday morning. Depending on which pianist
is playing, the piano may also play with the organist. In the evenings the
bass, guitar, drums, and piano all join in with the organ for the prelude.
Preludes usually are hymns. The organ sometimes plays during offertory
depending if it's the scheduled organist's turn to play offertory, of if the
offertory is the whole group. The organ does not play for the choir anymore
which is a long story that I only partly understand. None of the musicians
are paid. I am not sure how many new anthems a year our choir learns. We
have two Sunday morning service which are the same and one Sunday evening
service. The musicians meet at 8:45 on Sunday mornings to go over the music
for the service. Our choir rehearses On Wednesday nights from 6-8, Sunday
morning from 9-9:20, and Sunday nights from 5-5:45.
