I've been a catholic church organist for just over 43 years (started at 8 yrs old) and I can tell you it really varies widely from parish to parish even within the same area. At my current position in Bucks County, PA. I play 3 Masses per weekend - 1 Saturday evening, 2 Sunday morning - rehearse with the cantors (all volunteers) every week plus rehears with choir and instrumentalists (again all volunteer) every Wednesday from September through June plus 1 Mass for each Holy Day for a base of $15K. Weddings and funerals are all extra at $125 per service. The weddings include one meeting with the couple to review and select the music. The cantors are paid $100 for weddings and funerals but not Sunday Liturgies. -----Original Message----- From: noel jones [mailto:gedeckt@xxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, July 08, 2002 10:54 PM To: rodgersorgan@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [rodgersorgan] Re: Job Duties Those Catholic Church jobs look good until you begin totaling up the hours spent in church on the weekend...5 masses, the Tuesday stuff and then choir rehearsal...and then convert for Canadian funds...they are getting a bargain...especially when you have got a funeral and a wedding on a Saturday...takes over your entire life, eh Carlo?
