From the descriptions in the media, it's easy to see how all of us could be
accused of being a terrorist based on the materials we all typically have on
hand. What are being described as "IED's" could easily be fuel grains, either
commercial or custom. It's good if other rocketeers are talking to people they
know in the media and law enforcement to try and educate them about the hobby
and the people in it NOT being mad bombers.
I've been very disappointed in the quality of reporting and the ignorance of
law enforcement when they encounter hobbies such as ours. A 9v battery, some
loose wire and a cellphone are not items that automatically mean "IED". In
fact, that's not even the first thing I would think of if presented with those
things in a box. If it were the case, I'd scare the hell out of investigators
since I have a bunch of old cellphones, 9v batteries and rolls of wire in
addition to all of my rocketry stuff.
