Scott. Thanks so much. Yep. I am doing something slightly different. But I do
know how to use SSH basicly for when I do need it. So that is good.
I used a Mac with Voiceover for quite some time years ago.
Sold both mac laptops I got. Just didn't care for mac os. Although it is a lot
better than windows (er sorry to those who use windows LOL. I just have a hate
relationship with that OS).
Many people use windows just fine.
The last version of windows I happily worked with was windows xp LOL. I could
not stand 7 8 and especially 10.
But I am chattering too much sigh. Thanks for everything. Going to try stormux
I think. At least give it a try anyway.
Won't do any harm. And my raspbian is on its separate sd card so all is fine
there.
Hi, so I run my pi devices headless, no speech at all internally.
I ssh in to them remotely and use my regular voice over and Mac as the head end
device.
Now with my devices Iâm running phone systems so all their control is done
via the web browser or in the shell.
Youâre doing something very different of course using your pi as a terminal /
computer more than server like I am. So doing different stuff.
Sound cards that are USB devices can be had very inexpensively if pennies are
tight.
I think on the order of under $20.
Think itâs excellent youâre learning linux / unix and some of the stuff
under the hood. Very valuable skills especially in the job hunt.
Good luck and again welcome.

Hello scott. Nope. Using internal and running the hdmi from the hdmi port to
my tv.
I really don't have the extra cash for an external sound card right now.But I am guessing you would get one that connects to the USB port.
so it won't load.
And then you would probably have to blacklist the default sound card driver
Good luck right?
I am not a huge fan of fenrir anyway. So its totally ok.
In fact, I have been considering down the road writing my own screen reader.
It was a long time ago in any case.
Just thinking aloud anyway.
And yay. It looks like the reply problem is now solved. Way awesome!
Are you using an external sound card with your pie for the voice?
Itâs generallybest d=to do this because it has a better performance profile
for the external sound card rendering the speech. Just a suggestion.

Hi everyone. First its a slight correction in my last email.
ended up being bashed rather badly.
Honestly I think I know what list it was.
And I personally believe the people who did the hurting were confusing mewith someone else.
Although I can't prove it. Its one reason I don't include my last name onthe Foundation.
lists.
To lessen things from happening again hopefully.
I am not that much of a programmer yet to try to figure out the problem there.
About fenrir. I could not get the package in raspbian to work at all.
experimental code. Both worked. However.
I had the same issue on debian when I tried installing it there as well.
So on raspbian I decided to find the homepage and get the stable and
speech but the lag was conparable to just finishing to listen to the stuff
The speech was really scratchy. And yes I could press control to silence
being read to me using espeakup.
I am keeping the fenrir experimental version on here and testing it as I go.
So in brief. I don't know what I am going to do.
And it sounds like two espeaks are running or something.
Maybe I can change a setting or something that will help with the speech.
The speech is really static sounding.
It works very nicely. But I still don't know how to reply to the list.
I don't know how to describe it except for that.
It does work though. And I am not done giving it a good trial.
In replying to your posts. I am using edbrowse for my email.
you via the list. So maybe I just have to set up an alias or something.
The list email doesn't come up when I hit both commands to try to reply to
reasons however.
That isn't your issue though. I really do like edbrowse for a number of
I use it more and more.and at this time have no intentions on getting one.
www.edbrowse.org if you want to read about it.
Also. stormux. I don't think I can try it as I don't have a raspberry pi 4
Slide it in the slot and switch OS's on the fly as needed.
Another thing I love about the PI is that I can simply put an OS on a micro
SD card.
But for me I prefer the micro sd cards.
Really awesome.
I think I read you can use a usb thumb drive too.
As long as your really careful with them you don't loose them.
The problem is I can't seem to get the wifi adapters running under there.
I do want to play around with freebsd.
So currently I need to connect via ethernet to ssh into it.
They tell me they can't or won't drill a hole to run a network ethernet cable.
The problem is. I live upstairs and the router is downstairs.
And I can't really blame them.
one for this purpose simply because there are currently no plugs to plug it in
That having been said. I can't leave a PI down there even if I got another
and run an ethernet cable safely without people tripping over it.
with my own internet router.
So I am thinking freebsd is going to have to wait till I have my own place
On the brltty info page it says it does.
I read differeing views on whether brltty works with freebsd or not.
If I could temporarily ssh into the raspberry pi in freebsd and ssh and set up
But trying to figure out how to get it working seems to be nonexistent.
brltty that way. But I have no clue how to do so.
Then I could use the braille display with freebsd and forget the ssh need.
