Dear Peter, It was interesting reading your introduction and comparing your experience there on the east coast to mine out here in the west. For our American readers, Sydney is that little indentation on the coastline on the east side opposite New Zealand. The rest of the continent is now officially known as Not Sydney. There is a physical barrier between Sydney and Not Sydney that generally prevents infection from travelling either way. Being on the eastern side of the barrier means you can have access to the wonderful Mr. Porter in Speers Point. He is a mine of information, good paper and chemical supplies, and patience. He has survived war, bushfire, and being employed by Kodak. Look him up in the Photographic Trader and depend on his advice. If you are looking for photo books or printed information try the Printed Image Bookstore in Melbourne - indeed there is a lot more printed matter available in Victoria than NSW. Don't ask me why, but there it is. Consider moving into RA 4 and C 41 processes in the summer - it is easier to get the darkroom to a constant 37.5 degrees thus obviating any need for water baths. Just do like I do and drink a lot of fluids and run around in the darkroom wearing only a loincloth. Make sure the darkroom has a lock..... Finally, remember the main purpose of camera clubs is to allow a resident expert* to make you feel bad in between the paid lecturer and the cup of tea and the main purpose of professional societies is to add the letters A, P, O, and I in various quantities behind your name. If you belong to enough of them you end up sounding like a Maori war-chant. Uncle Dick * Invariably a Dutchman or Yorkshireman.... ============================================================================================================= To unsubscribe from this list, go to www.freelists.org and logon to your account (the same e-mail address and password you set-up when you subscribed,) and unsubscribe from there.
