What happens if you type just the word set in a command line?

That was, in older windows versions a command that you could, and did in the old days use to make changes to system variables, but not sure it works in windows 7 at all, but if you just typed set and hit enter on something like a windows xp/2000 machine, it would tell you all the currently set system environment variables, and you could in fact use something like the following to get them sent to a text file:
set > oldSet.txt

Then you could try copying the current set of variables/settings to the clipboard, and reentering/resetting the ones you wanted.

In other words, find the path=

copy the very long string, excluding the part you don't want to the clipboard, go back to command line, type in the following:
set path="

hit alt + space bar to activate system menu, but then hit E key to invoke edit submenu that was specific to command line, and hit the P key to then paste to the command line, type in the closing " and hit enter.

Now will just say that am not 100% sure this will work perfectly, even on an older operating system, and don't know if will work at all in windows 7, but anyway...

Stay well

Subject: [program-l] Reset System Variables

Hello,

I stupidly modified the system variable for my Vista 64bit machine and added "sysWOW64 so that some applications could work with it.

I then started getting error messages saying windows was unable to locate the sysWOW64 reg.exe or something like that. Unfortunately, it did not let me get back into Computer properties to delete the sysWOW64 value I entered.

I read on an MS blog that I can alter the variables from the REGEDIT. However, after modifying the key, my system now does not have any audio. So I can't even get JAWS to help me navigate around to fix the problem.

Please does anyone have any suggestions to fix this issue? Is there a way I can maybe reset my registry settings so my machine can start working again? Thanks in advance.

Regards,
LU
