'Tain't so, Linda, at least not the way I have my system configured (which
is down to bare bones, the way I like it). When I right-click that system
tray icon and select "Open Network Connections", I get the Network
Connections window with "Network Connections" highlighted in the left pane
and listed the right pane are: 1394 Connections, Local Area Connection, and
my ISP which I named, "RCN Connect" (soon it will be some Verizon broadband
as I mentioned earlier in this discussion).

The above is not a dialog box that opens but an explorer window. And if I
right-click my ISP, and then click Properties, I do have checked, "Show icon
in notification area when connected" but that is to show the internet
connection icon showing that I'm connected to the internet. It looks like
two overlapping squares similar to the "Restore down" squares in the upper
right hand corner of most Windows' windows :-) which when clicked, opens up
to an internet status box showing length of time connected to the internet
etc.

Maybe I'll live with this puzzle for another week or so until I get my
broadband connection and then see what's new in the system tray. Another
interesting icon there (I only have 6 when connected to the internet) is
what looks like a tiny yellow badge with a tinier what looks like an
exclamation mark. I mouse-over says it's for installing updates. But no
sooner do I install whatever updates "they" give me, in no time at all, it
appears again apparently wanting to know if I want to install updates. By
now I'm quite an updated guy. --- Harold
