For backing up, a CD-RW or DVD-RW are better choices.  What you use depends on 
how much you are backing up.  DVD will hold about 7 times what a CD will hold.
From what you say, you are already backing up certain things, so it's possible 
a CD-RW is all you need.
Further backups would include My Documents and email.  If they consume too much 
space for a CD, then DVD is your answer.
