Hmmmmm So much to say and so little time <chuckle>

A) 99% of the material offered through P2P software is copywrite protected and
it is, indeed, illegal to download it.

B) P2P software can be used to legitimately exchange files (like word, text,
excel files) between people. This would be legal as long as the two parties
exchanging the files agree to share them.

C) Movie clips and snippits from TV shows are most assuredly copywrite
protected and it is a crime to download and use them.......or to copy them and
post them for exchange.

D) Downloading any files using P2P software opens your computer to legal
liability, and also opens it up to numerous security issues.

E) Allowing your children (assuming they are young) to have access to movie
clips on P2P networks also opens them up tot he world of porn in a very big way!

Lastly, there are some very few musicians who offer there un-copywrite
protected music as a way to get themselves heard -- like giving away records.

Having given the legal implications, there is a very big argument that many
consumers have that says "I am legally allowed to make a copy of a song for my
own use -- I should be able to download a MP3 file for my own use as well". I
won't get into this dbate as the position is personal to each person.
Obviously the recording industry feels that's wrong.............and the
millions of people who use P2P to download music feel it's right.

If you allow your children to use P2P software, be very, very sure you have a
good firewall, you have a good AV software and keep it up to date, and that you
make sure that the P2P software is set up properly so access to files on your
computer is limited. If you aren't sure how to do that, ask before allowing
your children to use the P2p software. Lastly, make sure you monitor what your
children download........unless you are the type of parent that allows them to
have unlimited access to porn.

P2P software is good.........as long as the user knows what he/she is doing and
practices safe computing practices.

Hope that helps.

¤|  What is the bottom line about the legality issues? Is most of

¤|  music that other people have recorded from CDs they bought? Or is
