First, I agree with almost everything Jimmy Dalla just said.

The only thing I disagree with is that is is mostly for fun. But= , I
do not strongly disagree.

The Tablet is definitely the least powerful computing device.

This is what I was writing before reading his email. I am glad h= e
wrote in as it helped me address this issue.

My LIMITED knowledge says to me..the difference is: To-MAY-TOES vs. To=
-MAH-Toes! NO difference, except the name.

An iPad (Tablet) is an Apple Product and all the others are Tablets ma= de
byother manufacturers.

Apple has its own operating system (surprise, suprise) and the others = have
an ANDROID system.

This is not all that different than the PC world... Apple and Microsof= t
operating systems. Although Android, I believe is Google and not Mi=
crosoft.

Instead of Programs like they have on Computers, Tablets have Apps.&#1= 60;
(Same difference. The are just smaller, but are functional.)

This is a very simplistic definition.

When they talk about GB on computers, they are talking about RAM (memo=
ry).&#1They will say XYZ brand 32 GB machine. They are talking pr=
ocessor capability.

When they talk about GB On Tablets, they are talking about Hard drive =
size. This IS a Big difference.

You will not get the speed you get on a new good Computer when you get= a
newgood Tablet. In many instances, you will not see any differenc=
e.&#16In some cases you may even think it is quicker.

That will be because it typically not be multitasking a bunch of =
things as we do on laptops and desktops. But remember, you can s=
tream full length movies through the SD card or an HDMI connection, etc.&#1=
60; It will not be choppy. (The screen is awesome!)

Reasons I bought the Toshiba Thrive:

It has a slot for an SD card, for storage, like a hard drive.&#16= 0;
(You could put a movie on a SD card and watch on the excellent clear scr=
een. Colors are are true. (Red IS Red. Blue IS Blue, etc.)&#160=
; You do not have to squint to see things. Everything is vivid. =
(You can also use Netflix (a free Android app) to watch TV shows &mov=
esstreaming from Netflix. You do have to have a membership. An=
ywhere you can get an internet connection, you can rent movies from Google =
and the Android Market. You can also watch those movies off line.

It has a USB connector which could be used like others that are o= n
desktop or latops, etc. It also has a mini-USB connector. (Think ex=
ternal storage drives.)

It has both built-in Wi Fi and Bluetooth.

It has built in GPS. I just used it to find out how to get to th= e
testing facility Jerry has to go to in about an hour. Iit was fast and cl=
ear! (It is Google)

There is also an HDMI port.

The battery in this device lasts longer than most, In MY Humble Opinio= n,
(IMHO).

The BATTERY CAN BE REPLACE BY THE USER! This is a biggie in my b=
ook.&#1Most Tablets, including the iPad requires you to take it in for =
service or send it in for service. I am going on a trip and I purchas=
ed a spare battery, so, if while I am out and about I can easily replace th=
e battery if I need to. (This is a new Tablet, so I do not think the =
battery should go bad, but, I believe in rather safe than sorry...espcially=
since I will be away from home. I will not use or charge the spare b=
attery (which takes a few hours the first time) unless I have to.) Th=
e battery is expensive ($85). But, compare that to having to take/shi=
p the iPad in and pay for that battery &service. (I have no idea=
what that costs) never mind the inconvenience of not having a device you h=
ave become dependent upon.)

I do not expect to see really huge complex spreadsheets or d=
atabases on Tablets. That is not their purpose. I have started =
a couple for personal reasons and have not had any problems, but they are s=
mall at this stage. I have no idea what limit or if there is any, tha=
t would cause the tablet to be very slow.

But, lightweight Tablets (the Toshiba is one of the heaviest at about = 1.1
lbs) you can carry anywhere with you without having a broken shoulder i= s a
big plus! If you have a large purse, you can slip it into its jac= ket
(sold seperately as everything else is) and then put it in your purse o= r
briefcase. (I not longer carry a briefcase. It was a retirmen= t
present to me...no briefcase...yippee!

We are going to San Antonio next month. I am surely taking this =
Tablet. A tablet can be used as a GPS and direct you to your destinat=
ion. I believe it is a Google App. (I do imagine there will be ar=
eas that I might not be able to get Wi-Fi, but I can get the directions bef=
ore hand so I know where I am going. I will not have to unfold and ha=
ndle a bulky map, never mind trying to refold it.

You can watch full movies on your Tablet.

The screen is made of that "Gorilla Glass". That does NO= T
mean it cannot be scratched or broken, but it is quite sturdy. I wo=
uld recommend to anyone who purchases a Tablet to also purchase the screen =
protectors. Yes, you use your fingers most of the time to move things=
about, select programs to run, change the volume, etc. As for your v=
ision, you will be thrilled! You can use your fingers to 'pinch&#=
39; the screen. (I have no idea where that name came from.) You=
put your thumb and forefinger together, almost like an "OK" sign.&=
#160; But, you have the skin of those fingers touching the screen. Th=
en, if you want to make something bigger, you seperate the fingers (while t=
hey are still touching the screen) and what you are viewing gets bigger.&#1=
60; You can then go back and make it smaller by reversing the action you to=
ok. You would seperate your thumb and forefinger and then touch the s=
creen and then bring them closer together. I guess that movement can =
look like 'pinching'. This does not work on every single prog=
ram, or it may only work on some parts of a program. I have found the=
majority work and a very small minority do not work. It may work on =
some sections and not others. It is mostly trial and error. (Th=
e funny part is after only having the tablet for a few days, I was trying t=
o use them on my computer monitor and kept making the motion over and over =
and yelling at it to work! I was glad no one was around to catch me a=
t being a dummy...lol! But, then here I am am fessing it up to a lot =
more people than would have seen me at home. (Let me know when you do=
it...fess up! ha ha!)

I think I forgot to mention you can drag stuff from one place to anoth= er
onthe screen. (You can also use a mouse if you want to.)

There are tons of accessories you can buy. You do not have to get =
them all at once. I purchased most of them at
www.Toshibadirect.com[1] . I had not seen most of these on sale
atstores and most of = the computer stores were familiar with the iPAD and
that is it. But, = that is changing.

The accessories I think are = good to start with: (Mine came with a
microfiber cloth to clean the screen. Keep it cl= ean and do NOT
use it for ANTHING ELSE)DO NOT USE ANYTHING ELSE ON THI= S SCREEN. I
did barely moisten the cloth on one end to remove a stick= y spot and then
wiped it dry immediately with another part of the cloth.&#1= 60; ALSO, NEVER
EVER EVER put fabric softner in the wash with your microfib= er
cloths. (I use them to clean just about everything in the house..d=
ishes, sinks, tubs, etc. I wash them in the washing machine ALONE wit=
h just detergent. They are as good today as they were when I bought t=
hem over a yr ago. I have about 40 cloths so I have enough to make a s=
mall load in the washer and do not have to wash them every couple of days.&=
#160; OK, that is the end of the microfiber cloths commercial. Wish I=
could get paid for the commercial..ha ha!)

A tablet pen. (I do not think a pencil eraser is a good thing to use
ona tablet as it= will leave a residue on the screen or screen protector.)

A neoprene sleeve for travel or when not in use and not being charged.

HDMI Cables if you plan on hooking it up to your TV or other HDMI device.

30W Global AC Adapter

Standard Dock with audio out. (It holds the tablet and charges i= t)

These are NOT necessities, but I want them (or later got some of them)= :

32 GB SD card to use for additional storage. (Like a hard drive..but of
course..j= ust a SD Card. You caould also use this card in your camera
and then = import the pics to the
Tablet. (Yo= u can buy this anywhere, look for a sale.
Any capacity SD card w= ill work...2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB, etc. But you
need the full size card.

If you have another device that uses a mini or micro = card,
this will work in the Tablet IF you have the full size SD card case.&= #160;
)

Spare Battery

Oh, and probably the least important thing I can think of is:

Back Cover to change the Bla= ck look of your Tablet . (They
comein a light Lavender, Blue, Raspberry (I have this one= !)Green Apple
&Silver)

As for an iPod, I do not have one. I have a Cowon. I like = it a
lot. I have a lot of Audible.com books. I have had a membe= r
ship for years. They sound awesome on the Cowon. I am sure th=
eywould sound the same on an iPod. I have not yet put them on the Tab=
let.

Here is the link to the Toshiba site. http://www.to=
shibadirect.com/td/b2c/tablet-model.jsp?family=3Dthrive&model=3D10-inch=
&lid=3DCFAMthrive_SeriesLink10-inch[2]

If for some reason it does not work, go to www.toshibadirect.com[3] and then
click on the tab for the Tablets. You will see the 7"= (which is
brand new) and the 10" which I pefer for ease of viewing.

OK, I am sending this in now for two reasons. This is too long a=
lready..and I have to get Jerry to his Dr.'s test appointment.

I hope this helps.

Enjoy!

>>>>I recently purchased a Toshiba 10.1 THRIVE Tablet.Â
I lO= VE LOVE LOVE it! >>Â>>It was awesome the day it
arrived! It was a snap to co= nnect to the router
>>(wireless).>>Â>>Then about 2 weeks later it
could no longer connect to the r= outer..so no >>internet.
>>The router company said it was not their fault and we went t=
houghthe >>manufacturer. Other items were conntecting to the
inte= rnet. >>After calls to Toshiba they had me send it
in.&#194T= hey sent it back in >>days. I >>still could
not connect to the net. >>Â>>But, I decided to call the
router company. (Netgear) >>Â>>They said that
theyhad gotten a lot of similar calls...(not= just about
>>Tablets).&#1She told me that there were thousands of cal= ls and
they had the >>solution. She had me reset the router and
changed some= things..(I do not >>remember what..perhaps it was just
the username and password= .)Â In any >>case...she did have me
change the SSID and I do not remember= what else.
>>Â>>When we were done.... it worked! And it has
worked eve= r since. >>Â>>I just love this
tablet.ÂWe are going to San Antonio f= or my
>>granddaughter's >>graduation from Air Force Boot Camp
next month. Having= this tablet will >>be just
>>awesome! We are also bringing a netbook. (My oth= er
half wants to take >>that so >>we can both be on the net at
the same time.) >>Â>>But, back to the tablet. I
just love it. The scr= een is large..and so >>bright...(you
cancontrol the brightness)Â It is like l= ooking outside at a
>>wonderful colorful garden or other nice view and you feel li= ke
you can >>tough >>each item. >>Â>>It is
an Android tablet and I am thinking I may get an Andro= id phone. I
>>think I >>am going to get a hot spot too so I do not
have to wor= ry about finding >>one >>wherever we go.
>&#62Â>>So, if you have any questions, just call.
>>Â>>I hope to be around more now. (Well, until
wego to Sa= n Antonio. >>By the way..does anyone have a hotel/motel
suggestion.Â= I am not a >>millionaire, >>but I do not
want to stay at a short-timers/flop house motel= .
>>Â>>Thanks in advance.
