hi rose
I did this using acronis ti 8
I can't remember if the way I chose was my first choice or forced on me - by
the way I was using winxp at this time, I have not tried it with vista !
I first separated my xp os to it's own partition making sure that all
integrated apps went with it, then copied the other partitions to my second
hdd.
I used a spare 100gb hdd, removing my second to make room.
because my acronis ti8 will only clone a whole drive, cloned this to the spare,
empty hdd.
with my bios, I found myself with a dualboot situation, but it proved to be no
bother at all.
I then deleted the partitions I didn't want from the spare. this gave me the
clean drive needed which I cloned to the partition I chose on my first hdd;
removed the spare drive and return my second to it's place.
To do a 'GM' - "always back-up before attempting drastic measures !!!
cheers Ted

Rose, I don't know if Acronis True Image will do what you want but you might
check their web site and investigate it a bit. I have the program but I
have not used it yet. I am hoping it will do what you are trying to do.
However, in re-reading your post you have said you cannot boot to an image
and the title of the program would indicate that is what it will make--an
image.
