hey Glenn... I have a triple boot system, with 98se, 2k and xp pro on it...
xp pro is the one I like least of all.... preferring 2k to all because of
the way it handles memory and the fact that I never have had a bsod with
this OS on this particular machine.

but I digress... you want to compare 98 with xp... I leave my system on
24/7 and prefer not to have to reboot. when I was running xp continually
for 3 months, I had to reboot every other day - which was on par with when I
ran 98 only. xp would lock up on me during simple tasks, but not as much as
98 would, but then again, I don't have as much loaded on xp as I do with 98,
and when 98 would lock up, it would be during more complicated tasks than
with xp. another issue I have with xp is that is that I found it difficult,
at best, to transfer files thru icq, msn messenger, etc to another user or
from another user running xp, even with the native firewall turned off
[which I found to be rather useless for blocking anything else].

the *go back* function did nothing for me... I turned it off as it took up
too much space on my drives. if the only 2 OSes I had to choose from were
98 and xp, personally, I'd take 98.

: Some scientific info would be for example a survey; how many users who
: upgraded from 98 to XP is satisfied with the upgrade? Or: What is the
: average time XP can stay on without rebooting compared to 98 under similar
: circumstances on similar computers. Stuff like that. Surveys are not
always
: 100% perfect but nothing is. There must be independent survey, for
example.
