If it is pretty much square, it is 4:3. If it is more like a wide rectangle it is 16:9 or 16:10 Measure the width and the height. Divide the width by the height. If the result is 1.7777777777777 you have a 16:9. If the result is 1.33333333 you have a 4:3. If it is 1.6 you have a 16:10 You can do the same with the native resolution of the monitor. Say it is 1280 x 960 then 1280/960= 1.333333333 which would indicate a 4:3 aspect ratio.
