I am on cable. Originally, my televisions were on a totally separate line than
my computer. But - that line went dead, so I am now all on one main line.
However, my cable company had to put a special booster type of thing in the
basement where it came in to the house. They didn't recommend having
televisions coming off of that line, but the one day they were here, the cable
guy put a gizmo on my line next to my computer - a special type of splitter -
and he gave me a wire for my televsion in my computer room. The next time a
different man was here, he changed to a totally different gizmo - He said the
big thing is loss of signal. And since it already existed that time, he was
allowed to work on it. The first guy really wasn't allowed to add the wire. It
seems to work fine.
Sorry I am calling these things gizmo's and I don't really know what is on my
wires.

Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Cable operations..?

I have a question as to how cable (Comcast) operates.. We pay Comcast for
both basic TV and internet services to come into our house. However the TV
is downstairs on one cable line, and the PC is upstairs on another. The TV
service is payed for by my wife and I pay for the internet, but we do get a
'same household' discount for the internet service.

Question: Are these then totally seperate, dedicated lines? Or would both
services come in on each cable line, being differentiated only by the type
of receiver?

In other words, could I add a regular TV to the upstairs computer line via a
split T cable connector, and/or might I also then add a PC to the downstairs
TV service the same way?

Thanks,
Greywoulf
